I was quite impressed by last night’s Ignite NYC (despite several product pitches that somehow got in there). I’ve only recently become acquainted with the Ignite lightning talk events (first from Google I/O), but I like both the concept and execution. With these types of events, I’m never sure exactly what to expect in terms of the quality of presentations, but I think the speakers did a great job of making their topics interesting (not necessarily an easy task). Video, slides to come.
Interesting New York Times article on improving primary and secondary school concept development and retention via perceptual learning. I feel very strongly that to improve education in a significant way, we need to pursue such novel approaches to teaching—and evaluate them scientifically to prove efficacy. (The article links to multiple published studies, which is great.)
